Dong quai herb is native to China. Traditionally it has been used for treatments for women's health issues since hundreds and thousands years ago. As known as women's ginseng, dong quai root is also being called tang kuei, dang gui, or Chinese angelica root. Dong quai herb is so widely used in china that even everyone from children to old ages can identify its shape and odors. Even some without TCM training can use it for some ailments, such as regulating the menstrual cycle. They believe that as a tonic, Dong quai benefits women's health greatly. However, from the point of view of an experienced herbalist, dong qaui can do more than just menstruation. It is a magic herb and seems solve alleviate a lot of symptoms. Dong quai belongs to the herbs of blood tonics, which refers to that it is commonly used to improve, enhance, boost, strengthen or enrich the Qi and blood. For instance, those herbs of blood tonics can help a woman to build her uterine lining to receive and support an embryo. As a medicinal herb, dong quai also work to prompt blood circulation for removing stasis, thus achieve pain relief. From the perspective of Traditional Chinese medicine, usually pain are caused by the stagnation of blood circulation. Once the stagnation is remove, the pain will be gone naturally afterward. For this reason, as one of fertility herbs, don quai is also commonly used to alleviate other symptoms related to menstruation such as cramping, irregular menstruation, and PMS.
