We were listening to old jazz records and drinking black coffee when photosmith Robby Klein grabbed his Leica camera. A memorable and pleasant afternoon in Nashville.

New song out today.
"Cobra", originally recorded for Sweet Shivers, is out now in the Fun Club. This was one of the most high energy songs within the recording sessions and it pained me to leave it off the record due to the album being too long. To me, the song stood out so much from the rest of the record that it actually didn't make sense within the album, despite its inherent catchiness sitting at the top of the pile of songs. Hearing it back for the first time since mixing it, I'm brought back to recording 2 separate drum kits playing opposing rhythms (one panned to the right, one more in the middle) something I had never done before which was a fun challenge in the studio. I'm also brought back to the state of mind I was in when I wrote the lyrics.
I suppose this song is simply about believing in yourself. I had just moved my studio to the downtown Denton, TX Square to begin writing from a new location to try and produce a fresh atmosphere for creativity, and on Christmas Night at about 4:30am, I woke up and stared out of my window to witness the historic Denton Mini-Mall burning down to its ashes. In a sort of half asleep, half depressed, fully exhausted and far too introspective state, I remember staring into the glow thinking that somehow, in some twisted way it must have been partly my fault because I felt like everywhere I was going I was leaving a trail of bad luck flames behind me. I had been living in this back and forth state of confidence and self doubt, while overthinking the kinds of negative thoughts I was hearing about life that we all fight against, and this song was a snapshot moment of choosing to snap out of that and step into a place of belief. I wrote it the following morning of Dec 26, 2017 and now it’s finally here. I hope it makes you feel pumped and want to groove.
Additionally, a live recording of "UNI" captured in San Diego, spring 2016 is now also available only in Fun Club. Lastly, the Halloween live stream show was a blast. It was a trip performing a show from my studio where the songs normally just dream of being heard. Thanks for being a part of it! Can't wait for the next one in December 🐍.
